What is rental vehicle excess?

Rent a car without stressing about the costs should you have a ding in your hire car. Depending on which level policy you buy with us, Zoom will reimburse you for $5,000 or $8,000 for any excess or deductible which you become legally liable to pay under your rental vehicle hiring agreement. Note that you may only add or upgrade vehicle excess prior to picking up the car.

Is rental excess covered automatically?

You are covered automatically for $5,000 rental excess with our domestic policy. With all others policies you must pay an additional premium and choose to add-on our rental vehicle excess extra within the payment process.

Does Zoom cover P plate drivers?

We will cover the same conditions as the rental company that you hire your car from. Many rental companies have restrictions on P plate drivers, but if the hire car company will cover you, then so will we.

What age limits apply to the rental car excess benefit?

We will cover the same conditions as the rental company that you hire your car from. If they only cover drivers aged between 21-75 years, then will do the same.

Which rental vehicle companies does Zoom cover?

Your Zoom policy covers you for the excess charged by any hire car company, provided it is a licenced motor vehicle rental agency. This includes all the major international brands such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrify and more. However it does not cover you for any loan cars you maybe driving if your regular car is in repairs.

How many drivers are covered?

All persons named on your Certificate of Insurance and listed on your rental vehicle agreement are covered. Drivers without a Zoom Travel Insurance policy are not covered by this benefit.

What vehicles are covered?

We cover many types of rental vehicles. We cover campervans and motorhomes that do not exceed 4.5 tonne, compact cars such as sedans and hatchbacks, mid sized wheels such as station-wagons and four wheel drives; and even mini buses and people movers that are rented from a licensed motor vehicle rental company.

Are there any exclusions to pay attention to?

We cover the same scenarios that are covered under your rental vehicle agreement. We won't pay any claims if you violate your rental car agreement; or if you are affected by alcohol or illegal drugs; or if you don't hold the correct licence for the vehicle you're operating. You should read your policy document (PDS) carefully to ensure you select the cover that is best for you.
You can add optional cover for extras such as Rental Vehicle Excess if you are hiring a car, Sports Activities Pack if you’re feeling adventurous and Snow Cover if you are hitting the slopes. These can be added during the quote process.
